All Creatures Great and Small season 5 cast: Meet the characters
Nicholas Ralph plays the iconic Yorkshire vet alongside series co-stars Samuel West, Anna Madeley, Rachel Shenton and Callum Woodhouse.
It's spring 1941 in All Creatures Great and Small season 5 and there's plenty happening in Darrowby, including a "huge" storyline for Mrs Hall.
"I feel like I say it every season but Mrs Hall just smashes it out the park this season with the story," Rachel Shenton, who plays Helen, told RadioTimes.com.
"I say it every season because she always just seems to, but I was a big fan of Mrs Hall and Gerald (Will Thorp, it was very hard for me to let go of that [romance]. And then this year, Mrs Hall faces something huge that really sort of tests her mental [health]."
And of course Tristan is also set to return, but he's not the same man who left in the 2023 Christmas special.
"He's obviously seen some horrible things, which he's not talking about," said Samuel West (Siegfried). "And he's obviously masking with drink and good humour."
Tristan's comeback will also lead to some interesting exchanges with Carmody.
"It's a really fun thing to watch play out, the dynamic between them," said James Anthony-Rose. "Tristan coming home and being met by this curious character, Richard Carmody.
"They're like polar opposites in one sense, because Tristan is very good at putting a lot of energy into relaxing, whereas Carmody, I describe him as sort of like a precision tool. He puts a lot of energy into his work, and then probably relaxes by doing a little bit more hard work – whether that’s studying for these exams, or whatever it might be."
He added: "So yes, they’re positive and negative in that sense, but through a mission that they find themselves on, they are able to look past their differences."

But what about the show's future beyond season 5?
"We don't know anything about series 6," Anna Madeley told RadioTimes.com.
West added: "No. We’re about to have some discussions about that. I mean, one of the things that the books do is dramatise the fact that Tristan leaves. Brian, the original Tristan, left the practice. And I don't think we'll be doing that. I hope not. So at that point, I think we will be non-canonical."
Madeley continued: "Yeah, because our adaptation is so very different to both the '70s adaptation, but also how the book’s written, it's quite a different journey that we're on, even though those stories are obviously the main source of inspiration, the journey and the arc for those characters is very different. So we shall see."
West went on to say that "one of the pleasures of being in a returning series is that it feels quite like life, in that you're in it, and you try and play the part as well as possible, but you don't really know what's around the corner".
"It's not like doing a play where you know you're going to have to shoot the king in two pages," he added.
"The fact that we don't know what's coming in series six is sometimes a little bit, I wouldn't say worrying, but sometimes a little bit of a concern, but at the same time it has to contain the possibility of being surprised, just like life."
